Cedar Coast welcomes guests to our off-grid, oceanfront property on Vargas Island, British Columbia.

We provide beautiful tent-cabin accommodations, full nutritious catering with local and organic foods, and exclusive use of our lodge and spa amenities. We also offer a variety of guided activities including kayaking, hiking, and marine wildlife tours.

Accommodations

Cedar Coast accommodations are in ocean view tent-cabins with wood stoves, private en-suite bathrooms, and comfortable beds with organic mattresses. Our tents are built from salvaged materials and furnished with a mix of custom salvaged wood and second hand furniture.

Education Programs

Cedar Coast offers a variety of in-house, place-based ecology programs for guests and visiting school groups. We also welcome independent education groups looking for the perfect place to host their own courses, workshops and retreats. 

Activities

Activities at Cedar Coast include yoga and movement, hiking, kayaking, beach walks, art making, fishing off the rocks, basketball, volleyball, badminton, board games, bocci, campfire, gardening, and tide pool exploration.

Dining

We offer full catering services that prioritize local, organic, and nutritious foods. Catering includes three meals each day that feature locally harvested seafood and fresh local produce. We do not serve liquor but guests may bring their own beer and wine. 

Relax and Unwind

Relax and enjoy our hand-crafted barrel sauna and cold plunge pool after a beautiful day exploring the island, restore your nervous system in the sauna and take a cold plunge directly into the pacific ocean. Or just cozy up with a cup of tea while watching the wild life around you.

Transportation

We offer round trip boat transportation between Tofino, B.C. and our location on Vargas Island. The trip takes 15 minutes on our open skiff.

Try Sailing course

A fun hands-on course to enjoy being on the water while learning basic sailing skills. aimed to provide candidates with basic introductory knowledge for crewing a vessel (monohull or catamaran) up to 15 meters in inland or coastal waters <5 miles offshore during daylight hours in moderate wind and sea conditions.

Yoga & Meditation

Depending on whether you want to regain energy, relieve stress or just relax, we offer different type of yoga classes : Kundalini - Yin or Family Yoga. The Shoreline deck offers a relaxing, oceanview location for yoga classes. On rainy days, classes can be moved to the multi-purpose room with heated floors.

Private Fishing Charter

Head out with an experienced fishing guide to the waters of Vancouver Island’s West coast, where salmon, lingcod, halibut and tuna are found in abundance. Our guides adhere to the highest standards of sustainable fishing practices. Trips are typically 4-5hrs.

Kayaking is a great way to connect with the natural marine environment. Guides will teach basic sea kayak skills and share all their knowledge on the local history, culture and ecology! Please note that trips require a minimum of two people.

Guided Ahous Bay Hike

A rugged and diverse 1-hour backcountry route connects the Cedar Coast Centre to the Vargas Island Provincial Park and the sandy beaches of Ahous Bay. The trail navigates through a coastal bog ecosystem before arriving at Ahous Bay, where you will find a long, sandy beach with breaking waves and expansive views of the open Pacific ocean. Ahous Bay is a great spot for wildlife viewing, including grey whales that feed in the bay during summer months.

Big Tree Trail Charter

The Big Tree Trail at Wanachus-Hilthuuis (Meares Island) Tribal Park is the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation’s flagship visitor experience. While most of the rainforest near Tofino in Pacific Rim National Park is second growth, on the Big Tree Trail you can find spectacular giant old growth trees including some that are estimated to be over 1500 years old. Wildlife Watching with Skookum John

Join Skookum on a custom wildlife watching tour in his home territory of Clayoquot Sound. An Ahousaht Nation member, Skookum shares cultural stories and knowledge with his guests as they watch whales, bald eagles, sea lions, otters or bears from his 20 ft vessel, the Sweet Marie.
